Mongolians went to the polls on 9 June 2021 to elect their Sixth President. Former Prime Minister, Chairman of the Mongolian People’s Party Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh won an overwhelming majority of votes in the election, in which candidates from the opposition Democratic Party and the ‘Right Person’ Electorate Coalition also contested. Winning 68 per cent of the votes, Mr. Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh was sworn in as the Sixth President of Mongolia, since 1992 when the country promulgated its first democratic Constitution.
The Mongolian President, in his first speech after the oath-taking ceremony, expressed his commitment to continue with the country’s peace-loving, open, independent and multi-aligned foreign policy.
